These Terms are the deal between you and Yenn Labs B.V. We've written them to be read, not skipped. They explain who can use Yenn, how to use it kindly, what we promise, and what stays yours.
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Yenn Labs B.V. ("Yenn", "we", "us"), a private limited company established in the Netherlands. They govern your use of the Yenn mobile application and the website at yenn.dating (together, the "Service"). If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Service.

By creating an account, ticking the box that confirms you accept these Terms, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated here by reference. If you are using Yenn on behalf of someone else, you may not — the Service is for individual, personal use only.
Yenn is strictly for adults. You may use the Service only if you are 18 years of age or older (or older still, where the law of the place you live sets a higher age for a service of this kind — that higher age then applies to you). When you join, the app asks for your birth date so it can confirm you are over 18 and work out a rough age to help match you; we derive a single whole number from it on your device and keep only that number. We do not store your date of birth, and we do not collect your legal name, a phone number, an email address, or any government ID or face scan.
You must be legally permitted to use a service of this kind where you live, and you must not be using the Service to re-enter after having been removed for a serious violation of these Terms. If we learn, or reasonably believe, that a user is under 18, we will remove their access. Misrepresenting your age is a violation of these Terms.
Yenn is built on the Nostr protocol, and your identity on the Service is a pseudonymous cryptographic key pair that is generated on your own device when you first sign up. You don't manage the key directly — you simply choose a display name — but it is genuinely yours. This has consequences worth understanding clearly:
This is the cost of an architecture in which only you can open the private parts of your account. We think it's worth it, and we want you to make that choice with open eyes.
Yenn is a private space for consenting adults to connect. To keep it that way, you agree not to use the Service to do, share, or facilitate any of the following:
Because almost everything that happens on Yenn is end-to-end encrypted and unreadable to us, keeping the community safe depends on the tools we give you and on what people report. Reporting and blocking are built in, private, and easy. When you report someone, that person is also blocked from your world.
We hold no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. When content or a user is reported to us, we act on the report — and for serious objectionable content or abuse, we aim to remove the content and/or eject the offending user within 24 hours. We act with care for the person who was harmed first. We do not host the private, encrypted parts of your content in readable form, so our enforcement is report-driven rather than based on reading your private messages or photos.
Illegal-content notices (EU Digital Services Act). If you believe content on the Service is illegal, you can notify us at info@yenn.dating, our single point of contact for these matters. Tell us what and where the content is and why you believe it is illegal, and we will assess it and act as the law requires. We will acknowledge notices and give reasons for the action we take, and you may use the contact route in Section 16 to raise a complaint about a decision.
Everything you create on Yenn — your profile, your photos, your messages — remains yours. We do not claim ownership of your content, and we do not use it to train models, build advertising profiles, or sell to anyone.
To run the Service, we need a narrow, practical permission from you: a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your content solely so the Service can function. In practice this is limited: we publish and serve your public discovery profile (your pseudonymous key, display name, coarse area, SFW photo reference and facets) so other users can find you, and we process your trust signals to compute and publish your trust score. Your encrypted messages and private photos are not part of this — they travel end-to-end encrypted, directly between you and your match by way of public, third-party relays and storage servers that we do not operate, so we never host, store, or route that content ourselves. This licence is limited to operating the Service and ends when your content is deleted from the systems we operate.
Crucially, your messages and photos are end-to-end encrypted (using the Marmot / MLS standard) so that they unlock only for you and the person you matched with, and they never reach our systems in readable form — the public relay and storage servers that carry them see only ciphertext. Your private photos are exchanged one-to-one and only after a mutual match. We cannot read this content, and the permission above does not — and technically could not — let us.
To keep the network real and free of bots and bad actors, Yenn computes a trust signal from private, anonymous signals — such as a referral, an in-person QR vouch, an event check-in, or a deposit. Only a derived score is published — as a signed assertion tied to your pseudonymous key, readable on the open Nostr network — and it is used to help distinguish genuine people from fake ones. The raw signals behind it stay private.
You should understand what the trust system is not. It is not an identity, a credit score, a background check, or a public social graph. It does not track who you talk to, expose your name or face, or follow you around the internet. A trust score is a signal of authenticity, nothing more, and you should not treat anyone's score as a guarantee of their character, safety, or intentions.
How we handle data is described in full in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. In short: we collect as little as possible, we don't ask for your phone number, email, legal name, or ID, your conversations and private photos are end-to-end encrypted beyond our reach, your location is only ever a coarse, grid-snapped area rather than an exact position, and we use no advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or third-party tracking tools. Please read the Privacy Policy so you understand exactly what does and does not reach us.
At launch, Yenn's core features are free to use. We may, now or in the future, offer optional paid features or in-app credits. If we do:
This section is forward-looking. If and when paid features arrive, any specific terms that apply to them will be made clear at the point of purchase.
You can leave at any time. From Settings → Delete account, you can delete your account directly in the app. Deletion is genuine erasure on the systems we operate, not a request that sits in a queue: it issues a protocol-level delete of your published events, instructs our gateway to remove your associated keys, and cryptographically wipes local data so that what was yours is truly gone. Because of the self-custodied, encrypted design, much of your content was never ours to hold in readable form in the first place. Content that has already been delivered to a person you matched with, or replicated to relays we do not control, is outside our reach and cannot be guaranteed to disappear everywhere.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms — and immediately, without notice, in the case of serious violations such as anything involving minors, non-consensual content, or threats to the safety of others or the integrity of the Service. Where it is reasonable and lawful to do so, we will tell you why. If you believe a suspension or removal was a mistake, you can appeal by contacting us at info@yenn.dating; we will review your appeal and respond.
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Yenn Labs B.V. and its people from claims, losses, and reasonable costs brought by a third party that arise out of content you create or share, or conduct that breaches these Terms or the law. This does not apply where the claim results from our own breach or negligence, and it does not affect your mandatory rights as a consumer.
Yenn is provided "as is" and "as available". We work hard to make it reliable, private, and safe, but we do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will meet every expectation. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties that the law allows us to disclaim.
Yenn is a platform for connection. We are not responsible for the conduct of other users, online or offline, for the truth of what anyone tells you, or for anything that happens when you choose to meet someone. People can misrepresent themselves, and a trust score is not a safety guarantee. Please use good judgement and read our Safety page before meeting anyone in person.
Subject always to the paragraph below, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Yenn will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data resulting from the self-custodied nature of your keys.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability where it cannot lawfully be limited or excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any liability that mandatory Dutch or EU law does not permit us to exclude. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected, and the limitations above apply only so far as the law allows.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer-protection rules of the country in which you live within the EU. As a consumer, you keep all the rights that EU and your national law guarantee you, and you may bring proceedings in the courts of your place of residence where the law gives you that right. The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform is available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, to reflect new features, or changes in the law. When we make a material change, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where the change is significant, give you reasonable notice in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Yenn after a change takes effect, that means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, you can delete your account at any time.
Questions about these Terms, illegal-content notices, appeals, or anything else are welcome. You can contact us at info@yenn.dating.

Yenn is an 18+ private messenger for matched adults. These Terms describe the Service as it works today and are written in plain language; where a plain-language summary and a legal requirement ever appear to differ, the requirement of applicable Dutch and EU law prevails.
